Cala Sila Restaurant, Granollers, Spain

Dessert Tapas - it's the future!

After our fairly average dinner on the first night, we were told about Cala Sila and thought we'd give it a try - we weren't disappointed!

It's a tapas restaurant with about 20 choices on the paper menu which is wrapped around your checked fabric napkin.  We chose about 8 different things to try between us for our main selection and it was all lovely.  The staff were all helpful and friendly and we managed to get by in a mix of English and Spanish.

They also do tapas desserts - a brilliant idea!  We chose three and my favourite was the churros and chocolate.  Churros are deep fried pastry dough sticks and you eat them dipped in thick Spanish hot chocolate - oh, YUM!

The bill was less than €60 for three, including a few beers and glasses of cava - you've got to try Cala Sila if you're in Granollers!

Here's a recipe for churros, if you want to give it a try:-

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 quarts oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup white sugar, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Stir in flour until mixture forms a ball.
  2. Heat oil for frying in deep-fryer or deep skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Pipe strips of dough into hot oil using a pastry bag. Fry until golden; drain on paper towels.
  3. Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll drained churros in cinnamon and sugar mixture.

More churros (chocolate covered this time) and hot chocolate the next day.

  1. Hey did you change a setting? Only half the post shows up in google reader now and I have to click "read more" to see the whole thing.

Also, Churros sound amazing. I'm never going to make them myself (obviously) but I will certainly order them if I get the chance :)

    1. Yeah, I was trying something new, but I wasn't sure how it'd work and I don't really like it either. Am going to change it back. Have already done a few posts with the code in them, so the next one will be like it to, but after that they should be back to normal.

Definitely order the churros if you see them on a menu - VERY yummy and low in fat and calories, naturally. Giggle.
